SHARING STORIES, ONE SEAT AT A TIME - THE POWER OF GREEN CHAIR PROJECT
As an interior designer, I’ve always believed that furniture tells stories. It holds memories and meaning. That’s why I was so moved by The Green Chair Project and the Share the Chair event—a beautiful intersection of design, dignity, and community.
In Raleigh, NC, Green Chair Project isn’t just about providing furniture. It’s about restoring comfort, stability, and pride in people’s homes—starting with something as simple, and symbolic, as a chair. At the Share the Chair event, designers, donors, and community members come together to celebrate the transformative power of a redesigned chair.
From my perspective, the most touching part is how The Green Chair Project redefines sustainability. Furniture is repurposed with care, not just to reduce waste, but to give it new purpose in a new home. Not extravagance—just the basics, thoughtfully curated. Every item is selected and styled with the same attention we’d give a client’s project—because every recipient is the client. That level of respect is what design is truly about.
This year’s 15th annual Share the Chair event reminds me that design can—and should—be a tool for equity. The thoughtfully, creatively redesigned chairs offer more than a place to sit. Funds raised through each chair offers stability, belonging, and a piece of beauty that tells Green Chair Project clients, you matter.
In a world of fast trends and disposable décor, The Green Chair Project is a powerful reminder: great design doesn’t just change rooms. It changes lives.
